The
site is situated only 2.5 miles from bustling Keswick with its shops,
pubs and restaurants all catering for tourists.
The centre of the town is now a pedestrian precinct, offering
pay-and display off street parking. The tourist information Centre
is housed in the middle of Main Street named the Moot Hall and has all the local
information, events and programmes, a must at the start of your
visit to Keswick. Every day from the Moot Hall there is arranged
graded walks organised by the Keswick Rambles.
You can also visit Lake
Derwentwater Marina for sailing, fishing wind-surfing,
rowing, swimming or go on one of the Regular Launches useful to use to get to
and from many walks around the area and of course to admire some of
the most awesome views in the world.
'The Theatre by the Lake' is
situated at Lakeside in Keswick with its famed views across
Derwentwater, Borrowdale and the Western Fells. The building houses
a 400-seat Main House, a newly-extended 100-seat Studio, a coffee
shop and bars, two gallery spaces, meeting and conference
facilities and a rehearsal room.
Keswick, which has only 4,000
inhabitants, is the only town in the northern Lake District
National Park. In addition to a vast number of eating places, restaurants and
not to mention pubs and shops, catering for
tourists, it has:
- an excellent supermarket, "Booths": take the first signed road
to Keswick, follow the main flow of traffic into the town, turn
left at the first roundabout, take the first right and it is there
on the right. Free parking if you buy something. There is also a
smaller Co-op supermarket, also with free parking.
- a number of bakeries/delicatessens, which specialise in
sandwiches and packed lunches; try Bryson's in the Main
Street.
- scores of outdor equipment shops; probably the best, and
certainly the best known, is George
Fisher right at the top end of the Main Street on Lake
Road.
- a cinema
- Keswick Leisure
Pool, with slide and wave machine.
- Keswick Park with crecket
ground, tennis, bowls and miniature golf facilities and a wonderful
new children's play area.
- a street market every Saturday morning
