Local Mountains.
The campsite has superb walking right from the door, so you can leave your car. Most walkers who go walking in the Lake District initially head for The Lake District's big four, Scafell Pike, Sca Fell, Helvellyn and Skiddaw, the only Lakeland fells to qualify as Munros (over 3000ft/912m). (You can do Scafell Pike and Sca Fell in the same walk if you have the stamina!) But there is much more to The Lake District than these popular destinations and here are a few which you can see and walk to,from, our site;
It may be a bit of a trudge up Skiddaw, Carl Side, Long Side and Skiddaw Little Man but it will gain you the fourth highest mountain in England and the reward of an unsurpassed view of Keswick and Derwent Water. Make sure you do it on a fine day. Alternatively, climb Helvellyn and Helvellyn Little Man from Thirlmere for a trip to the third highest mountain in England. This very popular route feels much easier than it looks and might leave you with enough energy to head south along the ridge to Nethermost Pike and Dollywaggon Pike or North over White Stones and Raise before descending back to Thirlmere.
Blencathra is one of the great mountains of Lakeland also referred to as the Saddleback. For those approaching Keswick from Penrith along the A66, it provides an awe-inspiring sight as it climbs steeply from the road. Blencathra's Sharp Edge has turned back many an intrepid hill walker.
